The 24th Session of the Standing Committee of the 12th CPPCC National Committee opened in Beijing on the morning of January 22. Yu Zhengsheng, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the opening meeting. Lu Zhiqiang, Standing Committee Member of the CPPCC National Committee and Chairman of Oceanwide Holdings, attended the opening meeting.

The session of the Standing Committee was held to prepare for the convening of the First Session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee. The main agenda included: deliberating and adopting the decision to hold the First Session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee; discussing and determining the lists of participants, number of members, and member candidates for the 13th CPPCC National Committee; deliberating and adopting the work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, the report on the progress of the proposal, and the amendment (draft) to the Articles of Association of the CPPCC submitted to the First Session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee for deliberation; deliberating and adopting the agenda (draft) and schedule (draft) for the First Session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee; deliberating and adopting the decision to authorize the Chairman Meeting to deliberate the matters not yet addressed by the 24th Session of the Standing Committee of the 12th CPPCC National Committee; debriefing the Director of the Special Committee of the 12th CPPCC National Committee on the work of the Committee; and deliberating the consultative plan for 2018, the summary of related work, and the written reports reflecting work situation of social conditions and public opinions, inspection visits, and foreign affairs visits, of the CPPCC National Committee.

The opening meeting debriefed Pan Ligang, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of the CPPCC National Committee, on the drafting of the work report (draft) of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, and Sun Gan, on the drafting of the report (draft) on the proposal of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee.

Zhou Bohua, Director of the Economic Committee of the CPPCC National Committee; Jia Zhibang, Director of the Population, Resource and Environment Committee of the CPPCC National Committee; Zhang Yutai, Director of the Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Committee of the CPPCC National Committee; Meng Xuenong, Director of the Social and Legal Affairs Committee of the CPPCC National Committee; Zhu Weiqun, Director of the Ethnic and Religious Committee of the CPPCC National Committee; Yang Yanyin, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the CPPCC National Committee; Pan Yunhe, Director of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPPCC National Committee; and Wang Taihua, Director of the Literature, History and Learning Committee of the CPPCC National Committee reported their work of respective committee over the past five years, respectively.
